My Old Laptop (Revisited)

Well I decided to try and get Ubuntu 16.04LTS onto my old laptop. After several attempts of trying to do a upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 without success. I tried to do a fresh install of 16.04, and that did work with no problems. So there is something wrong with the upgrade process when trying to go from 14.04 to 16.04. I am not sure exactly what it is but I am thinking that it has to do with AMD graphics drivers. In 14.04 I was using fglx driver, where in 16.04 the fglx drivers where discontinued. Therefore, I had to uninstall it and install the open source drivers but during the upgrade something went wrong. However, installing 16.04 as a fresh install the open source drivers install with no problems. Woohoo, I can continue to use my old laptop without worrying about vulnerbilities in the future. At least for the next 3 years anyway.
